Gilbert Arenas and dumb athletes...

Maybe I'm continuing my rant from yesterday and I'm preoccupied with the "Dumb People" topic, (and today's rant is about Gilbert Arenas,) but this is a story that has needed to be told for years...

First of all, there seems to have been a lot of turmoil from professional athletes in the news lately, and they are not playing nicely in the sandbox with others. It seems that playing a sport that they are good at, and lucky enough to play for millions of dollars as a "job" just isn't good enough anymore.

It seems that with massive endorsement deals, hob-knobbing with celebrities, and living the life of the rich and famous can only get you so far. It's not good enough to win the lottery every 6 months with your standard 5 year contract in your 20's, after not having 2 cents to rub together from your single-parent upbringing. No, that's not good enough. -We need to have some more attention; negative or positive. It doesn't seem to matter, because publicity is good either way.

Well in a way, it works...

For a clueless basketball person such as myself, I would've never heard of this clown Gilbert Arenas. -Had he not let his ghetto side loose, and unleash the 4 guns he held in his locker in the Verizon Center in Washington D.C, probably A LOT of people who now know his name, wouldn't have heard of him.

This comes just on the heels of another clown, Chris Henry in the NFL who grabbed notoriety, albeit bad, by getting involved with a domestic dispute with his baby-mama, and it cost him his life. Earlier, we saw that New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty to firearm charges in which he shot himself by carrying a loaded gun in his pants pocket, and is now serving his sentence.

It seems that all these incidents have a theme, but I'll leave that up to you the reader to figure that out. I'm more concerned about why this shit happens. How do you have these kids making millions of dollars and commit the stupidest career-ended mistakes?!

You know, if I was an owner of a professional sports team, and I had dished out millions of dollars for an athlete on my team, I would make sure that there was a clause in the contract that with that amount of money, the athlete has to have a "Life Coach" of my choice so that he doesn't lose balance in life that comes with that kind of lifestyle. These kids are victims of agents, parents, relatives, friends, and the list goes on when they cash in on their million dollar ticket to the big leagues. So if you get the kid some sense of balance, and the responsibility that goes with money like that, they are better prepared for keeping focused, and not getting caught up in shit like this.

It seems like every kid coming from the ghetto has an attitude of self-entitlement of who's not giving him his love in life. A great example of this was a talented running back from my Beloved Ohio State Buckeyes, Maurice Clarett. He was a highly talented young man who sabotaged his career before it even started in the NFL. He took on Ohio State, the NFL and lost and then ended up making some bad decisions in life and was convicted of armed robbery and now sits in jail waiting for his chance to rejoin society again without a meal ticket like football once game him. What a terrible waste...

Now don't get me wrong, I'm quite sure that there are some great examples about how some athletes are great role models and how they give back, but nobody writes many stories about people like that. Do you know why? Because common sense would tell you that they SHOULD. It should be expected that they give back, so I don't think that they need to be given credit for doing it. Don't get me wrong, it's nice that they do, but I'm certainly not going to write about that...

I'm interested in morons, and why they insist on BEING morons. Do they have some facination with stupidity? Do they have some chemical imbalance that they feel the need to bring 4 guns to their place of business, to protect themselves in the locker room from all their teammates?

I guess I shouldn't really worry about it. This is not going to affect my life, or make me money, so I will leave it like this:

You can take the boy out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the boy...
