Happy New Year, and new decade!!
So, in keeping with one of many New Year's Resolutions, I am sitting here at my computer with my coffee as I write this. It is minus the sugar, replaced with sweetener, and the cream has been replaced with milk. It may not sound like much, but any morning coffee lover would appreciate this "sacrifice" that I am making to lower my caloric intake in order to shed some weight that creeps up on all of us. Day 1…
Wow, 2010... That sounds so futuristic, like a Buck Rogers show... Of any New Year's previous, this is the one that officially made me feel like father time was watching over my shoulder.
How did you spend yours? Was it partying, or was it a quiet night amongst friends? I spent mine with close teammates that I play hockey with, that have been together for decades. In fact, they put a time capsule together in 1999 and opened it last night. It was really surreal to see the notes that they wrote to their young children who aren't "young" anymore. Some weren't even born yet, and simply were an ultrasound picture without a sex or name. Now these are real children with names and people who love them. It was so great to see this, and I must admit, I shed a tear while reading these notes from my friends to their kids 10 years ago. It was very touching to see the evolution of a young parent and their children growing up.
But what about you? Did you start your day today with excitement of starting over? If there is a day of second chances, today really is the day. You can be anything you want to, starting today. Really! In fact, everyone is doing it! I know that I have some really cool things planned for 2010 that I am really excited about. In fact, I plan to make this my greatest year! I think the economy that was holding us all back last year is ready to let us jump back on board again, and let us take it out for a test ride.
So, I will keep you posted about my year; keep me posted about yours! I say this because I share so much with you. You know so much about me, but sometimes, I know so little about you. I love the feedback that you leave for me, and I certainly appreciate the kind words, and emails I get in response to my blogs. I seem to have a very loyal following out there, and I never knew it.
Thanks to my good friend Marc "Funk" Roberts who made this all happen! He is the one who got me on board with blogging because he saw something in my writing that thought should be shared, and he went out of his way to get me started. This, in turn, inspired me to finally get off my ass and write the novel I am currently soon finishing. So, thanks Funk, I am truly in your debt for believing in me, and making me write. I love it...
There are so many people to thank, and it would be an endless list. I really am grateful for so many things in my life right now. It was a tough 2009, but I'm glad it’s over and we can usher in a new decade. So make it happen for you too, and keep sending me those emails, comments and feedback. It really DOES make my day.
Happy 2010 to you and yours and make it something special!!
Chuck
Sounds like you had a great New Years....I love the time capsule idea....I rang in the New Year w/family and friends.....those most dear to me...I've been thinking all day about what changes I need to make, or rather "improvements" that I'd like to make. Starting today I want to be more patient w/ my family....to not lose it so quickly....and to be more assertive at work and not so "nice". This is the year to make change.....thanks for the reflection Chuck.....your words hit home....
