Being Unstoppable With Your New Year's Resolutions

It's a great time for people watching as the New Year of 2012 comes into our lives. Everyone always has these New Year's Resolutions of losing weight, spending more time with family, earning more money, and right about at the end of January or the start of February, everyone falls off their goals. It happens like clockwork every time.

There are a number of reasons for this, yet in the end, reasons and excuses don't really matter do they? If the reason or excuse is stronger than the will or goal, then one subsides to the other. Most of us simply aren't built to withstand that negative voice inside our heads that tell us that we can win. -Whether you say you are or you aren't, you're right.

I think one of the biggest things I've learned in 2011 is that people who play in big games in their lives, have a better relationship to failure than people who play small games in life. People who are content being small in their lives do so because their relationship to failure is not as strong. If they encounter failure, they get stopped, and it affects them so much that they don't want to continue.

However, people who are living big lives have a much different relationship with failure. They literally fail big ALL THE TIME, and it never stops them. They simply don't allow failure to stop them. Sure, they lick their wounds along the way, but I promise you that anyone who has something that you lust after has had some really big failures in their lives getting to where they have gotten. They have really earned their spot where they are, and as much as we would like to think that they were lucky, they weren't.

So if you look at your relationship to failure, how does it affect you? Does it stop you from living a big life? Does fear enter into your realm and stop you from achieving what could be possible because you are so worried about what might happen, or how you might look if it doesn't work out? Are you afriad of what others will think it is doesn't work out?

I have to be honest, I fell into that category. I had a really big fear of success. I had no relationship to failure that would enable me to carry on once things didn't go the way I wanted them to. I mean, it was easy to keep going when things WERE going my way, yet it takes no character to have that happen, does it, because anyone can do that. The real muscle comes from the stopping point, and exercising that muscle to get those failures to become successes is the key to being unstoppable.

The real key comes from developing that muscle from WHY it is you are doing. If your "why" is bigger than your failure, then you will continue forward. If not, you will simply quit and move on to something less difficult and live a smaller life. -And there is nothing wrong about that, it's just that you won't live the bigger life that you wanted to live. But realistically, you aren't geared for that game anyway. You are only geared for how big your reason is behind what you are doing. Big reasons will end up finding a way to win. Weak reasons will result in settling, as we all do.

So, now that the New Year is here, what kind of a game are you prepared to play?
